Talents

Give freely of your talents and time while taking only what you require for a simple and pleasant existence. The karma you create will provide you with abundance and contentment eternally. --Lao Fzu http://www.taowoods.org/

Karma is often a misused word in the United States. When I hear people discuss karma, it seems that their belief of karma is that somehow based on how the universe will either shower a person with fortune or kick a person’s ass due to a persons actions and intent. This is a terribly silly idea, but I guess with a little thought it could be partially correct.

The idea that the universe alone can decide how it will repay would mean that it is intellectual. With its intellect, it would have the ability to process others actions to conclude how to dole out its reward. If you believe in a god, then I suppose that this seems simple and a no brainer. If you don’t, then this is just crazy. But…
We are made up only of atoms. There is nothing about our bodies that isn’t made up of atoms. If the entire universe is atoms and we have a conscience, intellect, and processing to decide intent, does the universe have a conscience? After all, we are the universe.

Anyway, karma actually works by how things return back to you. If you’re active in the community helping others, others will help you back. If you’re blight, you may be killed, if mean perhaps ostracized. What comes back to you isn’t from a magic column of air or an inanimate object; it is what people return back. How you shine outwards will reflect off of others and back to you.

I love this one from Lau Tzu and I find it to be 100% accurate in my experience.

Another good post :)

Taoism emphasizes the circular nature of life. In this vein, if we spew forth negativity or light the way with positive energy, it makes sense that it would flow back around to us.
