The crane is good at nurturing the spirit, so it lives for a thousand years. The tortoise is good at nurturing energy, so it can survive a century without food. There is another lesson that can be learned. Not only can we gather a message about prolonging life, but also how. A tortoise knows when to withdraw into itselve for conserving and restoring their energy. It is important that we follow the example set by the tortoise and use time each day to withdraw into ourselves to nurture the energy and spirit. It is one thing to understand that the spirit and energy must be conserved; it is another to know how to go about it.
