The tao that can be described
is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be spoken
is not the eternal Name.
The nameless is the boundary of Heaven and Earth.
The named is the mother of creation.
Freed from desire, you can see the hidden mystery.
By having desire, you can only see what is visibly real.
To follow Tao, are we supposed to give up our goals and values? I don’t see it that way. What we are doing is giving up the objects that keep us from knowing real peace. When free from stress and inner conflict we live our lives happier which also gives us more energy.
I’ve been guilty of trying to intellectually understand Tao, I’ve read of others that have done the same. My nature is to rationally think things out but Tao is not the same way. It can not be rationally thought about and when caught in this mode I quickly stop. Tao cannot be defined but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be known. It has to be known intuitively. Once we drop the intellect is when we can better understand.
